Jean Derval (1925-2010) was one of the leading figures of post-war Vallauris ceramics. A versatile artist, he developed a distinctive artistic universe inspired by mythology, nature, and the Mediterranean world.
His creations are characterized by expressive decoration, sculptural forms, and richly colored glazes that give each piece a strong artistic presence. Through his vases, chargers, and sculptures, Jean Derval successfully combined ceramic tradition with creative freedom, helping to establish Vallauris as an important center of modern ceramics.
Today, his works are highly regarded for their originality, craftsmanship, and significant contribution to the history of twentieth-century French ceramics.
