Founded in Florence in 1921 by Guccio Gucci (1881–1953), the House of Gucci quickly established itself as one of Italy’s most prestigious makers of luxury leather goods and accessories. Inspired by the elegance of the international clientele he encountered while working at London’s Savoy Hotel, Guccio Gucci developed a distinctive aesthetic that combined Italian craftsmanship with an immediately recognizable style.
From the 1950s onwards, Gucci expanded into jewelry, watches, and precious accessories. The House’s creations are distinguished by iconic motifs such as the horsebit, curb links, bamboo, and the interlocking double G, which have become enduring signatures of the brand. Jewelry produced by Gucci during the 1960s through the 1980s reflects a taste for sculptural volumes, richly worked yellow gold, and a design language that is both sophisticated and resolutely modern.
Today, Gucci remains one of the most influential names in international luxury. Its vintage creations, particularly those produced during the second half of the twentieth century, are appreciated for their exceptional craftsmanship, strong stylistic identity, and significant place in the history of contemporary Italian design.
