André-Aleth Masson (1919-2009) was a French ceramic artist, painter, and sculptor born in Saint-Malo. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes and later in Paris, he specialized in ceramics following the Second World War and furthered his training at the Fontcarrade School of Ceramics near Montpellier in 1947.
During the 1950s, he established himself as one of the most creative ceramic artists of post-war France. His work is characterized by sculptural forms, often biomorphic or geometric, transforming functional objects into true works of art.
From 1952 onward, he exhibited at the Galerie M.A.I. in Paris and participated in the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, while simultaneously pursuing a career as a painter and sculptor.
Beginning in the 1960s, his work increasingly focused on sculpture, architectural panels, and mural art, while maintaining a constant exploration of form, color, and material.
